Last week, Dierks and hit songwriter Ross Copperman joined the campers to write a song that Kelsea recorded with the campers on Monday, June 26th in Nashville and will be performed by Chris Tuesday, June 27th at the Grand Ole Opry. Chris will share the stage with those same campers.
Dierks tells us the experience of working with these special folks was unforgettable, “I’ve been around this group a long, long time ago. I think 13 years ago I had a chance to visit these campers when it first started, but this was my first time getting a chance to really be part of this process and it was awesome. It’s like when you visit a children’s hospital or something and you go in there thinking, ‘I’m gonna bring something to the table. I’m gonna lift these kids up,’ and you walk in there and you’re like, ‘Oh, they’re gonna lift me up.’ Like, they inspire you so much and it was such a great experience, and we wrote a great song and they had great ideas and we incorporated a lot of their ideas into the song, I mean direct things they said about . . . The title of the song is ‘I Love Big’ and it’s just about going into everything with a big heart and it was really fun. It’s a cool thing. I’ll hopefully get a chance to do it again.”
In other Dierks news, he has announced that his new single is called “What the Hell Did I Say.” It’s the fourth single from his latest Black album, which recently gave Dierks his 16th Number One hit with the album’s title track.
Dierks’ current tour takes its name from the new single. He said, “We named the tour after this song hoping that it would be a single this summer because it perfectly captures the anything-goes spirit out there this year. It’s crazy right now with Cole (Swindell) and (Jon) Pardi. Every night is better than the one before. Just when you think it can’t get any more fun, it does. I’ve worked my whole career to have a tour like this one.”
The What The Hell tour resumes on July 7th in Milwaukee, WI.
